Renault R10 – Formula 3 Racing car

                                This picture was taken at Wanneroo during an early practice session
                                                     (before the front anti-roll bar was fitted)
 
Built 1971-1972  in the carport at Moora Dental Clinic, Moora, 
Western Australia by John K. Flynn
Motor Mid mounted R10 – 1109 cc
Lightened Flywheel, Heavy Valve springs, Special Cam
Shaved Head, high compression Pistons
Engine modifications carried out by Dave Sullivan in Subiaco
Lubrication Normal wet sump, Duckams racing grade oil and STP additive used. 
Fuel 100 Octane BP Racing Fuel
Maximum Revs 10,000 RPM
Gearbox/Axle R10 – 4 speed inverted, custom adaptor plate to motor
Carburettor Single side draught 40mm Weber
Exhaust Tuned Extractors and tail pipe
Suspension Independent Coil Springs and Dampers
Upper & Lower Wishbones, Radius Arms, Front anti roll bar
All custom made ¾” Mild steel tubing with ball joints
Bodywork Aluminium alloy sheet – non malleable
Removable cover on radiator, fuel tank, pedals
Steering R10 rack & pinion, Leather steering wheel –  8” diameter
Fuel Tank  5 Litre ex Briggs & Stratton motor & exchangeable 20 litre long-range tank
Chassis Nickel-Bronze welded mild Steel ¾” Square Tubing (space frame)
Rollover Bar 1.5” Diam. Mild steel round tube
Seat Belt Full harness
Wheel Uprights Custom made mild steel ¼” thick  nickel-bronze welded
Incorporating R10 Hubs and bearings
Brakes 4 Wheel Disk – Renault R10 hydraulic - separate front/rear system
Master Cylinder Twin R10 Master Cylinders with adjustable front/rear ratio
Clutch Normal R10  hydraulic master and slave cylinder, R10 Clutch plate

Foot Pedals Floor mounted custom made from R10 brake parts
Gear lever 4” long connected via control rods to rear of gearbox
Radiator Renault 16 at front, connected by 1” aluminium water pipes to motor
Battery Normal 12 volt small car battery located behind seat, Manual Isolation safety switch 
Instruments Electronic Tachometer, Ignition on/off, Starter button
Water temp gauge, Oil pressure gauge, ignition warning light

Official Number Number 18 Registered 13th March 1972 (still have the CAMS log book)
Raced 4 meetings in 1972 and one meeting 1973 
Race Category Formula Libre - under 1300cc class (equivalent to formula 3)
Anything from Go Karts to Formula 5000 were in the same race!
Last known address Stored at John Immink’s car repair yard in Tribute St Riverton.
The wheels and tyres were sold to another driver (number 12) while I was in England.
I believe the remaining parts were cannibalised and the chassis/body sent to a
rubbish dump. I may be wrong about this, so anybody that has seen this car or parts of it since 1973, please let me know.
